Pennies is a micro-donation platform that lets customers round up or add a small donation at checkout, supporting various charities. It's a quick, secure, and impactful way to give back, turning everyday transactions into meaningful contributions.

At Lightning we partnered up with Pennies. A leading charity working to protect and grow micro-donations, unlocking technology for good and creating a future where everyone has affordable, digital ways to donate charity.With a setup on platforms such as magento, Pennies were looking to expand onto other platforms such as Shopify to help increase microdonations.Working with them since 2022 we created a Shopify App to enable merchants on all plans to install the app and have their customers donate. As time has gone on and Shopify has changed we updated our app and launched our checkout extension back in October 2024 which lead to merchants seeing donations double!To show their appreciation, we've been nominated and shortlisted for the Pennies Innovation in Technology Award for 2 years in a row!You can read more about the incredible work Pennies have done over the years here or if you'd like to install the Shopify app, you can do that here.
